Posted on 14 January 202214 January 2022 by Aleksandra Czarniecka

Labels implemented today fulfill many functions in terms of use, advertising and information. For many people, the label is an important source of information and is a carrier of a lot of valuable data about the product, its ecological status, and certificates. You can learn about the ten characteristics of a label and how to find out a valuable label in our article. We invite you to read the publication.

Valuable label

Labels must meet the features that offer consumers as much information as possible but also use and advertising value. Each label should meet the legal requirements in terms of the obligation to provide information and provide the correct grammage as well as warning signs. Important are issues such as e.g. graphic design, ergonomic shape, easy application on the product, and its removability. There are many features of a valuable label, but in this text, we present the 10 most important, without which the label may not be perceived as valuable.

10 qualities of valuable labels

1. MATERIAL CONTENT

The substantive content of the label is a very important issue. This is because it depends on how and to what extent consumers will obtain information about a given product. The description should be as short as possible and contain all important information on the technical parameters and properties of the product, nutritional values (in the case of food products), and warnings about possible side effects related to improper use of the product.

2. READABILITY OF TEXT AND MARKINGS

Depending on the size of the label, how much information will be contained on it and
at what distance consumers will read text and markings on it depends on the choice of typeface and degree of writing, as well as its legibility. The smallest font on the label should not be smaller than 6p. Each label should have product safety signs and approvals appropriate for a given product category.

3. EASY APPLICATION AND REMOVAL OF THE ADHESIVE

Labels can be applied in many different ways, depending on the technology park and the production technology itself. Labels, depending on the substrate, can be made with a different layer of glue, and this will have an impact on their removability, which is an important role in the subsequent segregation of waste. Labels with strong adhesive can be a significant problem in the context of ecology and the separation of raw materials (labels from packaging).

4. SAFE SUBSTRATE, CERTIFIED RAW MATERIAL

A well-thought-out label should be printed on a certified and safe raw material, appropriate for a given category of printing production. Currently, paper mills offer FSC and PEFC certified raw materials, which means that when choosing a raw material with this marking, we can be sure that it comes from forest crops intended for the production of paper.

5. ECOLOGICAL

Eco-friendliness in labels is a very important issue. Trends and growing consumer awareness show that it is not only a matter of environmental protection but also a practical aspect in the context of waste segregation. It is worth paying attention to such elements as the weakening of the label’s adhesive layer and the raw material of the packaging on which the label is placed.

6. HIGH-QUALITY PRINT

High-quality label printing is the basis of modern printing. The higher the quality of the label printing, the better the color reproduction and small elements. Today, print quality is of increasing importance to consumers, especially those who choose premium productions.

7. A REFINEMENT THAT PROTECTS AND ATTRACTS EYESIGHT

The refinements catch the eye and add extraordinary charm to the product. At the same time, they protect the product against many external factors, which makes the labels more resistant to mechanical damage.

8. UNIQUE DESIGN

The graphic design should not only be prepared following the guidelines and comments provided by the printing house. Above all, it should delight consumers and attract attention. Both its commercial success and sales depend on what the label of the product looks like.

9. ERGONOMIC SHAPE

The shape of the label must fit perfectly with the product on which the label is to be applied. Ergonomics plays an important role here in the context of both production costs and the production technology of the label application itself.

10. MARKETING VALUE

Labels that combine all of the above-mentioned features enhance the marketing value. The product is more noticed by the consumer on store shelves among many competing brands. They are, as it were, an advertisement of the product.

Summing up, all the above-described features that define the label – when applied in practice, give
as a result, a full-fledged description – both in terms of content and visual. A lot of conceptual and creative work is needed to create such a label, but the results can satisfy many consumers. It should be remembered that labels not only carry information but also affect the senses and give character to a given product or product line. It is worthwhile for the designed label to be thought out in the above-mentioned aspects, which complements it comprehensively both in the vision and mission it fulfills on the market.
